Pambula Carnival

11 April 2010

We had our best carnival at Pambula for a few years with 6 from 6

Day One:
Lenny’s Raiders 3.7 to 1.2
Illawarra 9.3 to 3.1

Day Two
Vic Metro 6.3 to 3.2
Mornington Raiders 7.3 to 0.3
Frankston 4.4 to 0.0

Just to prove our superior fitness, many of our team also backed up for 4 games
for Illawarra which fronted with only 12 players. We had 29 players over the weekend
with 10 on the bench on day one dropping to 3 by the last game. Despite the numbers,
I think everyone got more than enough footy for the weekend.

Congratulations to the guys who played in the ACT colours for their 1st carnival:

Mick Dawso, Darren, Shaun, Platy and Phil.

There were no weak links in our squad and everyone contested well and made a contribution.
Highlights included the comeback of Midnight in the ruck and multiple goals for Crusty.
Team discipline was strictly adhered to with the Dawso brothers last into bed on
Saturday night just before the 4am curfew.

Special thanks to Crowey, Uggs and Skutey for umpiring and Doc for providing team support.

The key to our success on the field was a miserly defense which conceded only 7 goals in 6 games.
Gaters dominated from full back (the new Jethro?)and our half back line with Bobo and Justin
providing brilliant rebound. Big Jezza smashed the opposing ruck combinations and Shorty and Pearl
were everywhere on the ball. Platy picked up possessions at will on day two and Skutafeides was
in full flight on the forward line kicking goals from outside 50 like he was a 20 year old.
Big Kevy T also dominated at CHF on the Saturday and Robbie Edwards was his usual wily
self around goals.

Best player for the carnival for me was Pearl.

The ACT was well represented in all facets of the carnival including the netball,
golf, talent quest, drop kick (midnight beat all comers) and sprints.
