Cockatoos v Cats

07 March 2010

Goodbye the big dry.  Long arid summer's washed out and Masters footy's back, cool, clean, serene as...Lake George?

Whatever.  Last Sundee nearly 40 blokes (a great turn out, well done lads) streamed onto Giralang oval for the year's first regatta.  The Cats, awash with skills, sank the Cockies, who to be fair brimmed with talent too, 10.10.70 to 6.14.50.

Twas a close thing, but the Cats held their water a little better around goals, as the score line suggests.  The first half was frenetic with some hard running and fine skills.  The second was no less frenetic, but mainly for blokes grasping at knees and wondering where their lungs had gone. But maybe that's just me projecting...my lungs.  Still, on the whole a good display, especially as the track was so soft they lost the penetrometer (sp?) trying to get a rating.  (Yes, an inappropriate metaphor, but I don't think they have surface ratings in water sports.  Damp to soggy?)

Best

BOG: Deebs for the Cockies. A stand out with lots of running, disposals and assists.

Special mention to Andy Mair for the Cats, who played the game of his Masters life.  Had a day out back and forward. Very positive and mobile with it, even when surrounded.  Copped a torrent too from a certain cranky pants, but his confidence nor energy did not ebb.

Cats: Shorty, Hoggy, Skute, Bowie, TC, Mairy, Bish, Phil and Murph.

Cockies: Deebs, Tuany, Yaps, Sleek, Stainer, Jezza, Dave Matthews, Kev and Murph

Umpires: Gazza and Crowey.

Ugs swallowed his whistle at the start and never got into the game.
