MAF has a national standardised set of modified rules designed to reduce the risks of injury and has the benefit of being acknowledged and supported by the AFL and the Australian Sports Commission.

You will find a welcoming atmosphere at MAF clubs with an emphasis on family involvement and fun social interaction.  While a good level of fitness is required to enjoy the game fully, training runs once or twice a week without huge time commitments are the order of the day for MAF.  The big event of the year for MAF is the National Carnival which is played annually, rotating to various State venues.

Its Fun for ALL People  More importantly, MAF is designed for people to enjoy AFL football whilst reducing the injury risks.  In particular, ACT Masters has developed the element of fun for its players.  This sport is a terrific outlet for the average family man who needs to get away from the pressures of work.  And let’s not forget the women.  ACT Masters is not just for the men, women are encouraged to participate within club activities as are children

During National Carnivals, teams are divided into age groups.  The 30-35s play in the Superules division, the 35-40s are in Masters and the over 40s participate in the Seniors division

The Season.  Throughout the ACT Masters season, several mini carnivals and short bus trips are arranged as well as a number of home games.  The season is much less strenuous than a regular District competition with games played only once a fortnight.  And training is limited to only once a week.

No Experience?  Because the ACT is not an AFL oriented state of Australia we get many players who have rarely touched an AFL football. People with Union or League backgrounds are very common in our club.  In fact, one of our players was a well known district league player in his youth and very recently he was awarded an All Australian selection in Superules for his terrific efforts during a National Carnival

njured?  Carrying an injury that limits your ability to strut your stuff on the ground?  Never fear, there's still a need for people like you at our club.  We need people who can assist by strapping players, running water, lighting the BBQ or simply cheering the team from the sidelines.  There is always a place for someone like you at Masters Australian Football

Umpires  The ACT Masters Australian Football League does not have any official umpires.  This requires the MAF to provide their own umpires when games are played.  This can mean taking someone from each team.  So if you have a desire to be an umpire please come and see us, no experience is necessary, training will be provided.
